Napa brings drop-in technology to English boxwoods
Company introduces innovative new line of boxwood topiaries fashioned with root balls

For almost twenty years, Napa Home & Garden has proudly produced high-quality preserved English boxwoods. These boxwoods are 100% real, painstakingly preserved and then reassembled by skilled topiary artists. It has long been one of the company’s most successful offerings.

At January 2023 market, Napa introduced a new line of boxwoods unlike any they had produced before. Each new topiary came with its own root ball, designed to easily “drop-in” to select Napa pots and containers. These are the first boxwood drop-ins to be introduced by any manufacturer.

“It took several years of development time to make these just right,” says Rebecca Mattie, Napa Director of Design. “We built them from the ground up, literally, and wanted to be sure the color, shape and realism of each root ball fit our exact specifications.”  

The new boxwood drop-ins are offered in a variety of sizes and shapes. They range from 5” to 24” in height, and come in profiles of single ball, double ball and cone. The root balls are tapered so they can best fit a tapered pot. Buyers can enhance the fit of the root ball in the pot by adding moss and other filler as needed.

“Now retailers and consumers alike can match their favorite topiary with a pot that fits their individual aesthetic,” adds Napa President Michelle Gee. “The root ball drops easily into the container – creating a finished look in seconds.”

The idea was a natural progression for Napa, who has built a reputation over the years for producing high-quality drop-ins in the floral category. The company is best known industry-wide for their orchid drop-ins, desired by retailers and consumers for the exquisite craftsmanship and realistic quality. As the industry leader in drop-ins, Napa has also devised a “drop-in system” to help buyers easily pair their favorite pot with a selection of the company’s best-selling orchids and ferns.

“The time is right to extend the drop-in concept to our boxwoods,” adds Gee, “and the reaction from buyers at recent markets tells us we made the right choice.”
